White Construction Inc. traces its history back to the days prior to World War II. Herman White, the founder of White Construction was born in 1914 to Italian immigrant parents. In the 1940s, Herman purchased a dump truck so that he could begin hauling coal and gravel. With his interest expanding, Herman decided to take a risk and branch out into a new business. In 1946 he purchased two buldozers. All winter he worked hard taking parts from each to make one working machine. By the spring of 1947, White Trucking and Excavation began advertising for bulldozer work, as well as hauling materials. As the fledgling enterprise grew, the White family’s life revolved around the business with the office located in the home and the maintenance shop located in the back yard. The 1960’s brought larger earthmoving projects such as site development for area industries, including Eli Lilly, Clinton laboratories, sewage lagoons, and construction at the Newport Army Ammunition Plant. This growth resulted in a change in corporate name and changes in structure. In 1965 the business was incorporated as White Excavating Inc. By 1969 White Excavating Inc. had outgrown the home-based office and a new office was established at the current location. Not only had White Construction outgrown the home-based office but the maintenance shop in the family’s back yard also outgrew itself. Herman then purchased an abandoned gravel pit north of Clinton which was to be the new site for the maintenance shop and equipment yard. During the 1970’s White Excavating responded to changes in area markets. Standard Asphalt, an asphalt production and paving division, was established on the equipment yard. The company was growing by leaps and bounds, expanding into new markets when the company’s leader suddenly past away. Herman passed away in September of 1979, leaving the company to his wife and children. The company was then ran by Herman’s wife Coriene and his son Buddy, or Herman White II. In 1983 the company name was changed to White Construction Inc. to better reflect the growth beyond earthmoving into a broader range of construction services. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s White Construction continued to grow branching into new areas. The rental business began to grow and it is now the largest privately owned crane rental house in Western Indiana. Today, White Construction markets itself as heavy highway, demolition, asphalt and concrete paving, bridge and site development, underground utility, industrial maintenance, hazardous response, remediation contractors, and power plant and refinery construction. It also provides services such as crane, heavy rigging and equipment rental. White Construction, Inc. has been and continues to be a family owned and operated company. The current owners, Herman "Buddy" White and Denise White, look forward to carrying on the dream that Herman White started over fifty years ago. Solar modules generate electricity using an inexhaustible, zero cost and carbon free fuel-power from the sun’s rays.  Solar power can help commercial facilities and large utilities reduce their energy costs. White Construction has the experience to deliver a full service turnkey package that keys on engineering, procurement and construction intrinsic to the development, design and completion of a solar power investment ranging from the simple to the complex. GEOTHERMAL POWER - Geothermal power is power extracted from heat stored in the earth. This geothermal energy originates from the original formation of the planet, from radioactive decay of minerals, and from solar energy absorbed at the surface. It has been used for space heating and bathing since ancient roman times, but is now better known for generating electricity. Geothermal power is cost effective, reliable, and environmentally friendly, but has previously been geographically limited to areas near tectonic plate boundaries. Recent technological advances have dramatically expanded the range and size of viable resources, especially for direct applications such as home heating. White Construction has the experience to perform a full service turnkey package for the required Engineering, Procurement and Construction essential to deliver a quality constructed Geothermal Power Facility. HYDROELECTRIC POWER - Hydroelectric Power comes from flowing water. Water, when it is falling by the force of gravity, can be used to turn turbines and generators that produce electricity. Hydroelectric power is important to our Nation. Growing populations and modern technologies require vast amounts of electricity for creating, building, and expanding. Although the amount of energy produced by this means has steadily increased, the amount produced by other types of power plants has increased at a faster rate and hydroelectric power presently supplies about 10 percent of the electrical generating capacity of the United States. Hydropower is an essential contributor in the national power grid because of its ability to respond quickly to rapidly varying loads or system disturbances, which base load plants with steam systems powered by combustion or nuclear processes cannot accommodate. White Construction has the experience in all elements of hydroelectric power to ensure that your project is completed on time and within budget.   From development to construction White Construction has the knowledge to engineer, procure and construct a hydro power plant from the simplistic to the complex. BIOMASS ENERGY - Biomass is anything that is alive; it is also anything that was alive a short time ago. Tree, crops, garbage, and animal waste are all biomass. Most of the biomass we use for energy today is wood; burning wood to create heat and energy. Biomass energy is renewable, which means we can make more biomass in a short time. We can always grow more plants. Burning biomass doesn’t cause as much pollution as burning coal or oil.  White Construction has the experience to deliver a full service turnkey package that keys on engineering, procurement and construction working on this technology; in most cases this is cutting edge involvement, and White Construction has lent a hand in facilitating implementation from conceptual design. White Construction is able to meet the demands of the development that pulls in the various differing components intrinsic to a successful Biomass investment.
